Abortion and breast cancer again – this time we have a considered article in the Wisconsin Law Review that states that the current level of scientific evidence, linking induced abortion with increased breast cancer risk, is now sufficient to support an ethical and legal duty to disclose fully the risk to women who are considering abortion. It clearly states that this risk should be included in informed consent and parental consent legislation.

It also should be incorporated in all literature mandated by the state to be given to women contemplating abortion. Since abortionists rarely give balanced information and counseling to women requesting abortion, many states have now required them to provide certain materials. Reading (Revelation 12:7-12ab) Gospel (St. John 1:47-51)



In the first reading today, we hear about this battle that takes place in heaven between Michael and the good angels – and the dragon and the bad angels. It can be a little bit confusing because on the one hand we understand that this happened before material creation took place, yet at the same time we hear that the devil and his minions were cast down to the earth. We hear about the fact that the martyrs in heaven are glorifying God because the accuser of our brothers has been cast out. If that is the case, one would think that it almost sounds like the devil was cast out after all of the Christian martyrs (or at least some of them) had already gone to heaven, certainly after all of the earth was created and all of the things within. But that is not the case.



What happens when we are dealing with the angels is that, because of the way their minds work, they are able not only to see the decision they are going to make, but they are able to see at that moment all of the ramifications that follow from their decision. Unlike us, who can hardly even see what is right in front of us (and certainly we all know from how many decisions we have made throughout our lives and then we say, “I never expected that that would have happened!”), the angels knew exactly what would happen. They knew every single possible ramification of every decision that they would make.



So this was not something that Satan and his angels were confused about when they had to make their decision about whether or not they were going to choose God. They knew what would happen. They understood it and it was completely clear to them. Even though they made their decision before material creation, nonetheless, they understood fully well when they chose against God (what happened is that God showed to them the Incarnation of Christ and the glorious woman who was going to give birth to the Lord, so even though this was very far in the future at the time, the angels understood fully well) that what that would mean is they would lose their place in heaven, and that even though the earth probably was not yet created when they made their decision, they would be cast down and they would spend all of time troubling humanity.



This is why there can be this simultaneous picture of what is going on in heaven before material creation. There can also be the point of the birth of Our Lord and the martyrs in heaven calling out to God all at the same time – because it took place outside of time. Therefore, what we would look at as far as time goes has absolutely no bearing on the things of heaven. Satan was able to see all the things that were going on at the moment he made his decision, all of the things that would happen throughout the history of humanity, and what eternity was going to hold for him, as well as for those who were obedient to God.



So when we see this reading with these different levels of time, we have to understand it in the angelic way, not in our human way. We say, “How is it that this could be happening at three different times in history and yet they are all stuck together in one?” It is because in eternity there is no time. Remember, in eternity, what God sees is everything as present. It does not matter if it was ten thousand years ago, now, or ten thousand years from now, God sees everything present. Eternity is a continual present. That is why all of these things can be at the same time.


We now can look back to what happened before time began and we can look forward as we cry out with the martyrs in heaven that the accuser of our brothers has been cast out, and even though we can see it in the past and in the future, there is a sense that we can also say it is happening right now. It is pretty clear, if you look around, that Satan and his whole cohort have been thrown down to earth and they are wreaking havoc. So all of us can still see it in that kind of a way. It is the reality of what is going on. It is a spiritual battle. It is a battle for souls, your soul individually and the souls of all other human persons. Therefore, the necessity for us to make sure we are praying, to make sure we are striving to live holy and virtuous lives so that he who has been cast down to the earth, he who is the accuser, will have nothing to accuse us of because with our sins forgiven and living holy lives we will then be able to stand before God, we will be able to rejoice with the saints in heaven and with all of the good angels who chose God, and we will be able to say that the accuser of our brothers has been cast out.

Matthew Edmund Shaughnessy, fourth son and ninth child of John and Anna Shaughnessy, was born on November 16, 1929 in Rochester, Pa. He was baptized on November 24, 1929 at St. Cecelia's Church in Rochester. For eight years he attended school there under the guidance of the Sisters of Divine Providence and graduated in 1943. Upon graduation, he entered St. Fidelis College and Seminary in Herman, Pa. which was staffed by the Capuchin-Franciscan Friars of the St. Augustine Province where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD GOALS

PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION I

Partial-birth abortion. In over 80%, these babies are entirely normal, and the mother has no obstetric problem.

These babies are past the half-way mark and, with few exceptions, can survive outside of the womb, if allowed to be born. This is Dr. John Willke with a Life Issue. The abortionist risks the mother's future ability to have children by spending three days stretching open the mouth of her womb.

Then he risks perforating her uterus by reaching into the womb from below and bringing the baby down feet first in a breech delivery.

He delivers the body, then, still keeping the head in the birth canal, jams a scissors into the base of this living child's skull, threads a tube between the blades and kills the child by sucking out his brains. Then he delivers the head of the now dead baby. Abortion? Not really -- this is infanticide. This is Dr. John Willke.

Most abortionists ply their grisly trade full time. But some also maintain a private practice.

All women have a right to know if their doctor does abortions. Do you really think that doctor is going to have the dedication and put forth the needed effort to save the life of your child at delivery - if that same day he's being paid to kill some other woman's baby?

I'd suggest you find out who the abortion doctors are in your area. Then widely publicize who they are through public pronouncements, in your newsletters -- yes, and picketing them, if necessary. Most doctors who are part-time abortionists will quit the killing business if this ugly practice of theirs is publicized. This is Dr. John Willke.

US Supreme Court Will Hear Partial-Birth Abortion Case

You’ve undoubtedly heard that the US Supreme Court has decided to consider whether or not the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act is constitutional. Pro-life President Bush put the influence of his office behind urging the Court to accept the case. The Court received 800 such requests in the past year and only accepted a small percentage of them.



This decision comes just weeks after a crucial change on our nation’s highest court. The Supreme Court previously considered a partial-birth abortion ban in 2000. By a vote of 5 to 4 the Court said that the brutal killing of a child during delivery was okay. Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was the tie-breaking vote to continue this grisly practice by abortionists.



But times have changed! Justice O’Connor is gone. In her place is Justice Samuel Alito. You may also know that Justice Alito voted against a partial-birth abortion ban while serving on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. But it was a unique situation that needs to be explained. The 3rd Circuit had the opportunity to rule on a partial-birth abortion ban two months before the Supreme Court did. Some would say politics played a part in delaying their action. Justice Alito chided his fellow jurists for delaying their vote, because it resulted in making their decision subject to the Supreme Court’s previous decision to reject the ban.



Now that Justice Alito is on the Supreme Court, it is expected by most on both sides of the abortion issue that he will rule to protect babies from this heinous act.



Victory is not certain, but I am very hopeful that our nation will take an important step toward protecting ALL innocent human life from womb to tomb.



Some pro-lifers say that a ban on partial-birth abortion won’t save a single child. They say abortionists will simply change the way they abort babies late in their mothers’ pregnancies. This may be true, but keep in mind that the partial-birth abortion debate has moved America notably forward regarding the public’s opinion on abortion. It has shown millions of people the ugly and very deadly reality of abortion.



We rejoice with each and every victory that brings us closer to our ultimate goal of protecting ALL unborn babies. This latest development is good news indeed!



We ask for your continued prayers as the Supreme Court hears oral arguments next fall and likely makes its decision in December or January or 2007.

WHEN IS IT HUMAN LIFE?

There are many who claim that, at fertilization, that new being was not yet human. “Human” means being a member of the biological species and is unique and different from all other living beings in that this being has 46 human chromosomes in every cell. It doesn't belong to the rabbit family, or the carrot family. It belongs to the human family. Anyone who claims that what grows within the woman is not human is either woefully uninformed or is trying to twist an obvious scientific fact to fit their own value system and political agenda.
